This was my first flying self portrait, I was a keen hang-glider pilot in my 20's flying many sites in the UK and also visiting some amazing locations in Australia. Hang gliding is a superb way to experience flight, its certainly extreme open cockpit aviation and you learn very fast launching from sites like Devil's Dyke, Firle, Beach Head, Bradwell Edge, Stanwell Park, Mount Buffalo, Buanga and many others exciting places.

The painting is of me and my Airwave Magic IV 166 circling in powerful thermals above Devils Dyke in Sussex with my brother Joe in his Magic 155 in the background. From altitude hang glider pilots would go "over the back" from the Dyke to fly cross country cruising the NW wind and thermals to travel as far as we could before looking for a useful field when the lift ran out....
