Our sun, the nearby G type star, is the key to life ( and everything) in the solar system and we all take it for granted as a fixed and constant light in the sky.

Early religious interpretation placed a perfectly formed unblemished sun near the universal centric earth,  In fact the sun is a complex nuclear fusion reactor and has its own indigenous weather driven by its huge temperature gradient and the maelstrom of magnetic fields that drives so much of its coronal behaviour.  The sun's surface is often heaving & bubbling with planet sized storms and violent out-gasing of plasma and energy rich particles.

It's influence governs everything about our lives and we are permanently bathed in solar corpuscular radiation and the supersonic solar wind that reaches far beyond the orbit of Neptune to the heliopause.
