Its been a busy and dangerous few weeks, during April 1918 three SE5a's of 1 Squadron complete an un-eventful evening patrol and turn for home as the sun starts to set on the cumulous dominated cloudscape. The visibility is unlimited, the sky is clear and the winds are light - a lovely evening to be aloft.

1 Squadron recieved its SE5a's in January 1918 and operated them past the end of WW1. It was a popular fighter and was the zenith of interceptor design during the 2nd decade of the 20th century. Young pilots with limited airtime found it relatively easy to fly and land, it wasn't the most manoverable of its generation ( given its inherent stability ) but was fast and strong. It won a repulation as the mount of aces and certainly packed a operational punch relative its its peers.

Original oil on canvas, image size 76cm x 51cm. Signed by the artist. The painting is framed and that is included in the price.
