“Spitfire patrol” - aviation art by Simon Cattlin

In June 1940 a pair of Spitfire’s sweep close to the channel coastline on a training flight. At this point in the war the RAF Spitfire units had only engaged with Luftwaffe units in the airspace over Dunkirk. During July the channel convey attacks commence, which brought them into play, and the Battle of Britain will begin in early August.

This painting was commissioned in 1988, I’m now re-marketing it on behalf of the owner.
