"Quarter Moon" - astronomical art by Simon Cattlin
Quarter Moon is a detailed portrait of Earth’s eternal orbital partner. The painting is showing half of the Earth facing sunlit section, thus a quarter of the full image, given that half of the moon would be facing away from Earth.
The Moon is significantly cratered and has very visible surface features encompassing its mountains and seas. Moon science has developed greatly since the early Apollo program and we now know that there is some water ice available to be processed into fuel and life support assets for a long-term base.
NASA is due to do its first “new” orbit of the lunar surface in 2024 with the first Artemis mission landing scheduled for 2025.
Original oil painting on canvas, 100cm x 100cm, signed by the artist.
