The sun is starting to set behind the Hombori stack as a 27 squadron Chinook, escorted by a French Eurocopter Tiger, drops off supplies to friendly ground forces. The RAF have been supporting French special forces in Mali for over three years and the Chinook provides a capable and reliable platform to support the UN backed counter insurgency efforts in this potentially hostile and demanding location.

This aviation painting was a commissioned by a serving officer and is designed to reflect the challenging operating theatre in Mali.
