At 20,000ft the cloud deck extends above us as cloud and ice particles stream off the tops of the afternoon thunderstorms.  A bright sunburst of filtered light illuminates the western horizon with soft warm hues.

This painting was inspired by a flight home from an aerobatic competition in summer 2008 (flying at lower level) looking up at stacked cumulonimbus within layers of mid altitude clouds painted orange by a partially hidden sun.
