Spitfire I's of 72 Squadron dive to attack a formation of Heinkel 111 bombers during the height of the Battle of Britain. "Swift Defender" has a section of Spitfire's diving out of the sun to pass through the bomber stream before converting the speed back to height for a 2nd pass. The summer sunlight is very bright above the clouds and the bombers are slightly obscured by the glare up-sun.
72 Squadron's emblem & motto is a swift, the unit served at Biggin Hill and Croydon during August and September 1940.
Original oil on canvas, image size 91cm x 71cm. Signed by the artist. The painting is framed and that is included in the price.
