"Saturn shine on Rhea" - astronomical art by Simon Cattlin
Rhea is the 2nd largest of Saturn's moons and was discovered by Giovanni Domenico Cassini in 1672. Its an icy moon, about 75% water ice, and sits within the orbit of Titan which is the largest, and potentially most exciting, of saturn's moons. Its not as bright or as active as Enceladus, Dione or Tethys although it does generate a very weak oxygen atmosphere of its own. At 527,000km from Saturn it doesn't receive the same tidal variation to create internal heating as the inner moons although its possible that some surface heating creates occasional out-gassing that deposits smooth ice pools in some of the craters and ridge-lines. http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/rhea.
